Running with the Red Queen

The Red Queen Effect comes from a vignette in Lewis Carroll’s classic, Through the Looking Glass, in which Alice finds herself running in circles with the Red Queen—always ending up back where they started:

“Well, in our country,” said Alice, still panting a little, “you’d generally get to somewhere else — if you ran very fast for a long time, as we’ve been doing.”

“A slow sort of country!” said the Queen. “Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!”

Our world is changing around us. If we are standing still, our organizations are actually falling behind. Like running alongside the Red Queen, there is a speed of change that is required to evolve at the rate of our markets and environments.

Is your organization set up to evolve at this pace?  Be adaptable.
